1000 Journals Opens!
In 2000, a San Francisco based artist, Someguy, decided to send 1000 blank journals out into the world. The journals went out to friends, strangers, and online folks who requested to be part of the project. The journals all had a stamp in the opening cover. The stamp provided instructions and the outline of the project. The stamp noted the following:
1. Take this journal and add something to it. Stories, photographs, drawings, opinions, anything goes.
2. Visit the website and tell everyone where you found it. If possible, scan what you added and send it to us.
3. If the journal is full, email us, and we will arrange for its return. Contents will be shared with the world.
4. If the journal is not full, go to the web site and connect with someone who wants it, or give it to a friend/strangers.
As the books slowly trickled back to the artist and became more and more filled, Andrea Kreuzhage decided to make a film to document the international lives of these journals. Finally, the long-awaited 1000 journals, opens at the Roxie Cinema in San Francisco on August 1st. This film strives to re-ignite the creativity in all of us. And, to show how a simple project can connect a seemingly disconnected world.
