A Monthly Miracle on the Miracle Mile
L.A.'s "Miracle Mile," an area that encompasses Wilshire Boulevard's "museum row" offers a monthly art walk on the third Saturday of every month (in July the day is tomorrow, the 19th). Between the hours of 1 PM and 5 PM art lovers can enjoy free admission to approximately 40 galleries--some of which spill of Wilshire onto La Brea and Melrose avenues and La Cienega and Beverly boulevards. You can walk the walk amongst them or take the Holly Trolley, a complimentary ride that departs from Gallery 19 at 1 PM. Lawrence Asher Gallery (www.lawrenceasher.com) is the host gallery for July where events will include an artist lecture and a reception. Gallery maps and other information can be downloaded from the Midcity West Community Council site (www.midcitywest.org). On display throughout the participating galleries are a wide variety of crafts, folk art, photography, sculpture, drawings, graphic designs, and paintings created by myriad methods and materials. And, as a real bonanza, just the mere mention of "Art Walk" provides free entrance to the world-renowned Los Angeles County Museum of Art (www.lacma.org) that houses more than 150,000 works of art; Craft and Folk Art Museum (www.cafam.org) with its eclectic and diverse exhibitions (contemporary Venetian glass is the current show); and the Mak Center (www.makcenter.com) at the architecturally famous Schindler House.
