Alternative view of Christmas
If you’ve been lucky enough to spend Christmas in Dublin you’ll know we’ve had blue skies and fairly mild temperatures for late December. But if you’re all turkey’d out and have had enough of Christmas tradition for one year, think about going to see the very irreverent and hilariously funny show at The Mill Theatre in Dundrum. "The Nativity...What The Donkey Saw!" is an alternative version of the Christmas story as we know it, as seen through the eyes of the only truly reliable witness - the donkey. It features a new take on some well-known seasonal songs, and is not for children’s viewing. Co-written by Conor Grimes and Alan McKee, it's directed by the very well known Peter Sheridan, with music direction by David Hayes. If you’ve ever thought of why Joseph didn’t book a room in advance (didn't he know the place would be packed for Christmas?), or pondered on who looked after the sheep while the shepherds were wetting the baby's head, this is the show that will provide the answers to your questions. Or if you’ve ever racked your brains wondering would the wise men not have been wiser to club together and buy the kid a high chair, then head to Dundrum. It’s a truly funny look at a very old story, and taken in the right vein, is unlikely to cause offence! The production runs at The Mill Theatre until January 17th, with tickets priced between €15 and €22.50. The best way to get to the theatre is to take the tram (Luas) from any of the city centre stops and get off at Dundrum where the theatre is a five minute walk from the station.
