I am a native Southerner who has lived in the DC Metropolitan area for the past 10 years. I love to be "in the know" by trying new places and things.  Interests include freelance writing, fashion, politics, and cultural events.  Hopefully...

Cheap DC!

Cheap DC almost sounds like a joke, but every year the Washington Post puts out a guide for all of the interns that descend upon Washington every summer.  This guide shows them how to score free food, where the cheap happy hours are, and how to get discounted tickets to cultural events.

I am unfortunately too old to be considered an intern, but with the current state of the economy, I, too, want to know how to get in on the cheaper-than-usual DC bandwagon.  If I were you, I would print out this guide and keep it in a safe place.

Here are the some of the more useful parts of the  guide:

1) 25 Happy Hours to Know

2) Days for Deals & Everyday Steals

3) Discounted Theater Tickets

In the Days for Deals link, I have been to many of these places or have heard good things about many of these places, so try to take advantage of these deals.  Trust me, you won't get booted out since you're not an intern.  As for the 25 Happy Hours to know, I will say this much, some of these places usually attract a young clientele, but if you stick to places in the Downtown Area, U Street or Penn Quarter, you will get to see a better mix of ages.
