Cocktails by the Pool
During the summer, finding a good place for happy hour is always a constant hunt for something new. A new place to try out or a great place with great drink prices. I recently heard about a new happy hour that may be worth your while to check out.
Every Thursday, at the Washington Plaza Hotel, Splash Happy Hour is in effect. Splash is organized by a group called Euronet, who purpose is to have events around town where people of diverse cultues can come together. Currently, Euronet is coordinating happy hours, embassy visits and networking events, but the group plans to branch out into other events during this summer.
Splash occurs every other Thursday on the terrace outside the Washington Plaza Hotel on Thomas Circle. You can enjoy a frozen drink and hear steel pan performers while relaxing on a sun bed right near the pool. It's not uncommon to hear several different languages spoken at the same table. You'll probably never find the same group of people at any of these functions which will alwayas make it new. This month, there will be no cover charge for the happy hour, but normally admission is free before 7 p.m. and $5 after.
Another similar type of happy hour where you can enjoy cocktails in a pool setting is at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. This happy hour, Code Orange Happy Hour, is every Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The hotel opens its pool to the public, including the hot tub. There is a $15 cover charge, but that includes one drink and use of the pool and the hotel's locker room and sauna.
