Dinner and Jazz
For a night out in the Boston, it doesn’t get any better than French bistro food and live jazz. Les Zygomates is located in Boston’s Leather District, the small nine-block area between Chinatown and South Station that is one of the city’s hippest downtown loft neighborhoods.
Les Zygomates is French for “the muscles in the face that make you smile” and the combination of very good bistro food, an intelligently thought -out wine list and live jazz will make you feel very happy indeed.
“Les Zyg” is a gorgeously inviting restaurant and positively glows amber- with exposed brick walls, high ceilings, wood floors, and red banquettes alongside closely -spaced cloth covered tables.
The zinc bar is extensive; pause for an aperitif and a starter from the bar menu- the house-made sausage makes an excellent choice.
The authentic French menu includes hearty fare such as steak frites as well as some lighter options like striped bass with fennel and grapefruit. There is also a daily two-course Prix Fixe lunch ($17) and three course Prix Fixe dinner ($32) that offer excellent value.
There is an extensive and affordable wine list with dozens of wines offered by the taste ($3-$5) or by the glass (from $8) and even a $20 bottle choice!
Les Zygomates attracts a stylish crowd that does like to linger. The service too, is decidedly unhurried- definitely the better to enjoy the nightly live jazz in the bar area. Especially on weekends, this place can be jammed. Make reservations.
