Family Outings in the City that Care Forgot

The Wall Street Journal put out a very nice piece just last week highlighting family-friendly activities in New Orleans - something that many people aren't aware exists here in city of gluttony and sin.  However, putting together child-friendly itineraries actually doesn't require looking to hard for things to do, as they so thoughtfully mentioned.

Classic favorites such as snowballs (shaved and packed ice with sweet syrup poured over), locally made ice cream at parlors like Creole Creamery, beignets at Cafe du Monde, are mentioned.  Popular outings such as shopping on the 6-mile consumer's paradise, Magazine Street, or antiquing on Royal are also noted as key day activities.  The D-Day Museum, Museum of Art, the Children's Museum, the Zoo, Aquarium, and the newly opened Insectarium are great places to escape the heat, as they mention, but outdoor activities like riding the streetcar, plantation tours, a round of golf, or swamp tours are also highly recommended.
