Gay Pride in Madrid!
Madrid is an extremely gay-friendly city. It has it's own super-happening gay neighbourhood "Chueca" -- one that has some of the best clubs, cafes, restaurants and bars. Exactly 3 years ago, the Spanish government legalised same-sex weddings and ever since, gay-pride in the city has been phenomenal.
This week begin activities running up to the "Orgullo Gay" (gay-pride) Festival in Madrid that is on July 5. The parties, events, demonstrations, and activities have already begun, a full schedule of which you can find here.
At 18:00H on July 5 in Puerta de Alcala and Plaza de España will be a demonstration spreading awareness about the gay and lesbian community, after which there will be parades and numerous parties stemming in Chueca but spreading all around the city centre.
With countless rainbows everywhere, it's a very happy as well as eye-opening evening, something worth going to if you haven't been to such event before. Yes, you are invited even if you are straight :).
To get an idea, have a look at some pictures from the 2007 Orgullo Gay.
Advice: dress comfortably, go in a group, and have a few drinks before you head out!
