Ghostly Entertainment
Continuing the theme of getting your alternative entertainment fix in Dublin city, your best next move is to climb on the Ghostbus for "an introduction to the dark romance of a city of gaslight ghosts and city legends". It's a couple of hours of innocent fun really, with some good actors playing the part of hosts for the chilling run around town. And it does hit some of the highlights of the architectural side of Dublin. Some of the stories include the real origins of Dracula and his Dublin born inventor, Bram Stoker, followed by a stop at the College of Physicians just behind St. Stephen's Green to recreate the strange activities of Dr. Clossy, whose spirit is apparently still seen walking the corridors carrying a bucket of human entrails. That's topped by The Walking Gallows, where the notorious judge, jury and hangman dispatched his victims in a less than entertaining manner, and a graverobbing visit to the trip to St. Kevins Graveyard on Camden Row.
It takes just over two hours, running at 8pm on weekdays, 8pm and 8.30 pm on Fridays, and 7pm and again at 9.30pm on the weekends. The starting point is at 59 O'Connell Street and the tour costs €25 (a little expensive, maybe, but unfortunately these are Dublin prices). You can prebook online at www.dublinsightseeing.ie, or just turn up at the depot. Don't go on December 31st or January 1st though; the normal schedule starts again on January 2nd. It's too spooky for young kids, but older children and teenagers will like it.
