What could be more fun than going to trapeze school? Especially when you need no prior experience and no one will laugh or chortle klutzy types (that would be me). Come to think of it, it's rather amazing that the City of Angels--both angelic and bizarre--isn't just agog with creatures flying through the air or perfecting balancing acts. Well, actually it is, but I digress. The recently opened Los Angeles branch of the Trapeze School New York (losangeles.trapezeschool.com) offers a fun and challenge for thrill seekers, fear-facers, career aerialists, and those just wanting to check out the experience (anyone bored with the gym yet?). Beginning classes consist of approximately 10 students last two hours long. First-class experiences include a short introduction to basic safety rules as well as an introduction to the staff (who will have your life in your hands--be nice). You may start off on the low bar, and then progress to the 23-foot-high platform where you can experience your first jump. Fear not--you will be told what to expect (adrenaline, baby, adrenaline) and briefed in how to fasten the ladder safety lines and other safety issues. And, no one will push you off the platform; it's your choice. On your second swing, you will be able to try the "knee hang" and maybe even the "flipping dismount." And, don't forget to say thank you to instructors and your fellow trapeze-mates. It's part of the etiquette.
