I scream, you scream.....
Summer has finally dusted off its passport, packed its bags and found its way to Paris. Now that the weather is finally warm, it seems that there is a glass case in offering tubs of ’homemade’ ice creams, or glaces, in front of every patisserie in the city. Far be it from me to deprive you of the pleasure of an exhaustive study to find the best ice cream in Paris. I will merely point out that Berthillon is a required entry in any frozen dessert analysis you might undertake in Paris this summer.
Berthillon is a Paris institution - members of the Berthillon family have been making glaces and sorbets at the cafe’s Ile St Louis location since 1954. The ice cream, made fresh daily from the best quality ingredients with no preservatives, draws lines that often stretch outside the door. Around 40 different flavors of ice cream and sorbet are offered each day, including caramel, earl grey tea, gingerbread and mint leaf, among others.
The Ile St Louis location is closed for vacation from 21 july through 2 september (the most logical time for an ice cream shop to be closed, no?), but fresh Berthillon ice cream will still be available at resellers throughout the city.
Some say that Berthillon is the best ice cream in Paris, but I encourage you to form your own hypotheses on the subject and thoroughly test it.
