I am a native Southerner who has lived in the DC Metropolitan area for the past 10 years. I love to be "in the know" by trying new places and things. Interests include freelance writing, fashion, politics, and cultural events. Hopefully through my posts you will get a sense of the flavor of the DC area and will want to discover the Nation's capitol.

Jim Henson's Fantastic World
The Smithsonian currently has a Jim Henson exhibit that will surely please all ages. I just learned about this and it has been going on for some time now. The exhibit ends on October 5 and is located at the International Gallery inside the Ripley Center, which is on the National Mall (1100 Jefferson Drive, SW).
There are a limited number of tours of the exhibit available. The tours are one hour in length. The size of the tour group must be least 10 people and not to exceed 20 people. Tours must be requested one week prior to the date of the tour.
The exhibition offers a rare peek inside the world of Jim Henson, the creator of beloved characters such as Kermit the Frog. This is a traveling exhibition and will go to other cities. The exhibition documents Henson's creative process with rare drawings, documents, photographs, and film and video clips. As a companion to the offerings at the Smithsonian, there is also a podcast that you can listen to as well. The 30-minute cast includes interviews with writers from Henson's company as well as an interview with Henson's daughter, who is president of the Henson Foundation. There is also a theater which will air clips from Muppet movies as well.
Don't let this rare opportunity slip by before the exhibition leaves DC. Long live Kermit the Frog! For more information, please visit: http://www.sites.si.edu/henson/travelingExhibition.htm
