La Boca's Stadium
I love futbol (soccer) and despite I am a fan of River Plate (eternal archrival of Boca Juniors), I visited Boca Juniors' famous stadium "La Bombonera" (the chocolate box) just for curiosity, though there wasn't a match that afternoon. The stadium is situated at La Boca (obviously!), about 8 block West from calle Caminito. It is another look into the soul of La Boca. At one of the entrances, welcoming visitors, there is a mural painted by La Boca's most beloved artist Benito Quinquela Martín that depicts the story of how Boca Juniors adopted its blue and yellow colours. Originally, the colours were red and white, but those were also the colours of the River Plate team. Those colours were retained by River Plate when they beat Boca in a game to decide who would wear what. It was decided in La Boca afterwards that they would adopt the colours of the first ship that entered the harbour and that was a Swedish ship, so they adopted the blue and yellow. At another entrance there is a mural painted by the well known artist Pérez Celis. Nearby, on calle Brandsen 805 you can find the "Museo de la Pasión Boquense" which holds a large collection of objects and pictures that will tell you the history of this futbol team ( www.museoboquense.com ).
The stadium is quite impressive and can hold up to 50 thousand souls. Boca Juniors has a long and storied history, though they might always be known as the team of Diego Maradona, the greatest futbol player of all times. For more info go to...
