Miami River Inn

A taste of truly old Miami -- dating back to a time even before the advent of the city's most famous Deco era -- can be had at the downtown Miami River Inn.  This bed and breakfast hideaway began life as a private residence at the start of the twentieth century.  It was fully restored and converted into its present-day existence in the 1980, and is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Consisting of four separate cottages which in turn house 40 guest rooms, the Inn retains its residential feel with each room furnished with its own unique collection of antiques and period furnishings.  First floor rooms have their own porch, while second and third floor rooms offer a view of the Miami River.  Most rooms have hardwood floors and in addition to the decorative elements of brass, wood and wicker furniture, there are all the basic modern traveler's amenities including color cable, phone, and a private bath with a period-style bathtub.  The surrounding outdoor grounds complete the private and intimate feel of the property, with lush landscaping, a pool and jacuzzi surrounded by palms and rich assortment of tropical plants.  You can enjoy your daily breakfast in the outdoor courtyard adjacent to this outdoor oasis, or in the  breakfast room, or of course in the privacy of your room.  Rates vary by season but remain consistently moderate for this well-appointed, historic and atmospheric small inn, a pleasing change from the vast resorts and glitter of Miami for those seeking something smaller and different in downtown.  Aside from all that, they do more than a little to contribute to the greening of local tourism, with such practices as recycling all paper in the offices and bathrooms, using "washing stones" when washing linens, and changing linens every few days.
