Music Festivals: Summercase
Like its springtime sister Primavera Sound, Summercase is two days of great international and local music. The biggest problem with shows like these is deciding which band to see because they’re packed with simultaneous performances. On Friday the 18th stuff your backpack with a picnic blanket and some sandwiches and head over for an afternoon at the fest under the blazing July sun. Some of Friday’s headliners include Blondie (who hopefully will not sing Heart of Glass), Primal Scream, The Verve, and local Catalan group Els Pets (which translated means ‘The Farts’).
Don’t party too hard Friday, because Saturday offers more music and fun in the sun. The 19th brings out the rockin side of Summercase with the Kaiser Chiefs, the Kings of Leon, and the Sex Pistols. The Spanish Indy band Los Planetas will also be headlining and is definitely worth checking out.
Sadly, I will be out of town for Summercase, and I cannot convey how disappointed I am not get a chance to see these all-star rockers play together. A couple years ago I caught the Kaiser Chiefs’ performance in Barcelona and was blown away with the amount of energy they exude. How can a person jump around like that and sing at the same time? Amazing. Do yourself a favor and head to Summercase if you’re in Barcelona. Alternatively, if you’re in Madrid on this particular weekend, Summercase will also being going on there (the musicians traveling back and forth) offering additional rocking opportunities.
