New Tayyabs
When it comes to Indian food in London you can be certain of the following two things:
1) “Indian” is used to reference the entire gamut of South Asian cuisine, whether it be Bangladeshi, Pakistani, or otherwise.
2) Everyone has a favourite spot and it’s all a matter of opinion.
In my opinion, if you have to pick one place to go for a curry in this city, make sure it’s New Tayyabs, a Pakistani restaurant n Whitechapel. This place changed my life. While before I liked Indian food a lot, since I’ve discovered New Tayyabs, I now cannot imagine my life without it. Don’t just take my word for it though, Gordon Ramsey, whose photo with the restaurant manager is plastered on the walls.
Menu highlights include: kebabs (specifically the seekh kebab), masala fish, karahi gosht, karahi chicken and the lamb chops. Also worth is their mango lassi, which is probably y one of the tastiest versions of the drink I’ve ever had. Tayyabs is BYO, so load up on giant bottles of Cobra or Kingfisher before you get there.
Tayyabs is known for its crippling line ups, so either book a table (will only be accepted 24 hours in advance or avoid the rush by going early or late.
