Oktoberfest Tips: 2 days and Counting!
Hey all you soon to be "besoffen" visitors! One of the greatest events in your lifetime is just around the corner, 2 days around the corner to be exact! Here are a few more tips to ensure that your Oktoberfest experience is the best that it possibly can be!
Tip 1: Get there early! I know that tents technically open at 11am, but there will be people, such as I and my friends, who will be getting there at 7am or 8am to line up outside for the doors to open. Yes, there are lulls as people do come in waves, but the early bird gets the beer!
Tip 2: Tip your waitress! I'm telling you to tip your waitress after each beer you get. Just 1 euro can go a long way. If you don't tip, that means to the waitress that you probably won't tip on the next beers, so she won't pay as much attention to you when it comes to taking your order. Start the day off right with a 1 euro tip from each person in your party. Don't stop tipping either, plan on giving a tip after every beer that you have.
Tip 3: Be aware of what beer can do to a person! After 4 or 5 beers, people usually forget their manners. So, ladies, wear shorts under your dirndls!! Speaking from experience, random men do like to quickly slide their hand up the back of your skirt. Men, don't become one of these guys! Also, the Polizei has been given permission to use force when necessary against rowdy patrons. You do NOT want to get into trouble with the Polizei. They are scary, scary people and Germany is not particularly accommodating to foreigners who disrupt the peace.
Tip 4: Don't assume that Oktoberfest is happening everywhere! Yes, I know that the Oktoberfest is a fun event with lots of visitors from all over the world. But, just because the Oktoberfest is happening at the Wiesen, doesn't mean that it is happening all over the city--- Because it's not. Last year I played host to some of the rudest tourists I have ever met as they acted like it was Oktoberfest all day, everyday, everywhere they went. It did not go over too well with the locals.
Enjoy!
