On the Hog
Harley Davidson Convention in Barcelona
I’ve been irritated by noise pollution more than usual lately. These days with the Harley Davidson show in town, there’s some new noise added to the screeching neighbors, the crying babies and the blaring televisions that together make up the soundtrack to my life in Barcelona. As bikers rev their big twins up and down the adjacent street, I wonder why anything so loud and brutish should be permitted within the city limits. On the open desert roads of Arizona is one thing, where the ‘brrrrrrooommm’ of the Harley is heard by only the cacti. But here in the city the hogs are fraying nerves and causing lap dogs to bark. Aye.
It’s strange to see these bikes and leather clad riders in Barcelona, a city which is ruled not by the big choppers but by the scooter and bicycle. For whatever reason, Barcelona was selected as the place in Europe to celebrate 105 years of Harley Davidson. The anniversary bash includes group rides, music, a flag parade and something called the Harley Village. To see Harley riders up close and personal put on your best bandana and take a trip over to Plaza Espanya between the 10th and the 13th of July.
