Our SF Youth Speak!

The time has come! Join thousands of San Francisco fans on March 22nd for the 12th annual SF Youth Speaks Poetry Slam Grand Finale. The participants have been battling all winter and finally, after months of anticipation, the finalists will compete for the prize. The winners of the night will be sent to Washington D.C. to compete on the national level. The event will include hundreds of participants, each of which will be granted four minutes on stage. The event is bound to be emotional and thrilling! Youth Speaks will also bring in DJ Funklor and Special Guest Emcees Chinaka Hodge and George Watsky. The winners of the 2007 Grand Slam will also speak. The event will take place at 7pm, on Saturday, March 22nd at the War Memorial Opera House.  With a $18 dollar general admission fee, it may be the cheapest and most powerful opera you will ever see!

Founded in 1996, Youth Speaks has gained recognition as the leading organization responsible for empowering local youth and promoting literacy, community, and free expression.  The nonprofit group is based in the California Bay Area, yet the successful model has inspired a national network of school workshops and events based on poetry and literacy education. Youth Speaks is a wonderful organization for not only locals to support, but for visitors as well.
