Marianne backpacked in Europe long before backpacking had been invented. It was difficult to buy a backpack in those days so she used an old one found in the attic. She thumbed her way through the British Isles and learned English at the same time....

Poetry in the Park

Bright red poles sprung up overnight in Vondelpark, or so it seemed. Last time I strolled through the park they weren't there. This needed closer inspection.

All in all there are seven of these poles in different location. They were placed here on 1st June to celebrate Poetry in the Park and will remain until 24th August. Each pole bears the name of a Dutch poet, a telephone number and a poet number. Ring the phone number, tap in the poem number and you will hear the poem recited by the poet himself.

(€0.25 per poem, exclusive of what you pay your telephone company per call. All proceeds go towards this project, any profit will be donated to Vondelpark and used for maintance of the park.)

The only glitch is that all poems are in Dutch. Here is the website (also in Dutch) http://www.poezieinhetpark.nl/

Even if you don't understand Dutch, listening to one of the poems is fun.
