"Poof" Go Honolulu's Beloved Restaurants

Three of Honolulu's most beloved and popular restaurants will shut their doors within one week, and the trend may be a sign of very unfortunate times to come.

Nick's Fishmarket, which has long been one of the best seafood restaurants in town, is the biggest loss of the bunch.  Nick's has been a staple on the western side of Waikiki, and has seen famous diners come and go for over 40 years.

There are two more closeby -- in Ward Center and mere neighbors to be exact -- that will shut down shortly too: Brew Moon and E&O Trading Company.  Brew Moon, that big mainland chain, had done so well on Oahu up until last year, when customers just stopped coming.  Even those warm tiki torches and the pleasant outdoor patio seating wouldn't cut it.

Finally, E&O Trading Company, a pan-Asian fusion restaurant that attracted diners, drinkers, and dancers alike, will celebrate its final day in Honolulu this Saturday, February 28.

With Obama's recent pep talk on the economy, there are rough times ahead here in the islands, and the closure of these great restaurants is a big indication of the Sisyphus-like battle that we islanders must endure.
