Sin Hoi Sai - food 'to die for'!
Located on East Coast Road in the smart suburb of Katong, this road-side Cantonese Restaurant has a range of food ‘to die for'.
The family-run eatery opens at 6pm and closes at 4am daily. During this time-frame locals and visitors sample the delights with great relish.
This unique roadside experience - affectionately known by those sitting on the outer-edge tables as ‘Drain View' - is a restaurant that has fans returning for more of the same time and again.
Having been a Sin Hoi Sai affecionado for some twenty years I can but say that the food is always great, the outdoor ambiance most enjoyable and the staff always friendly.
In fact, so nice is the owner Ah-Khim and attentive crew, led by her sister Ah-Bee - with husband Jimmy appearing on special occasions like Chinese New Year - one almost feels like one of the family when arriving at the pavement location.
Home cooking was never like this! (Not in the north of England, anyway!)
Favourite dishes include Chicken in Blackbean Sauce ... Stingray ... Claypot Liver ... Pepper Crab ... Scallops and Deermeat hotplate. Your own choiceswould perhaps be more expansive, but, believe me, these ‘starters' - accompanied by steamed rice or noodles - all cooled down by a few frozen beers, make for a great evening's enjoyment.
I once had friends visiting from Sydney who I took to the Sin Hoi Sai when they arrived. I found out later that they returned every night of their one week stay, so impressed were they!
