Music lovers visiting Singapore and seeking some ‘real' Chinese music can get themselves down to the Singapore Conference Hall (along Shenton Way in the business area of the city) and enjoy an evening of delightful Chinese music.

Inaugurated in 1997 the SCO is the only professional Chinese Orchestra in Singapore.

When not performing at the Conference Hall the 72 man Orchestra can often be found in the heartlands of Singapore performing for the people. They could also be in other locations such as The Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay, or Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The SCO Season 2008 sees monthly performances taking place, led by a number of Conductors but in the main by the SCO Music Director - Maestro Tsung Yeh.

Under his guidance the Singapore Chinese Orchestra has performed in numerous overseas events - including the Barbican Centre in London, the Budapest Spring Festival, Beijing Music Festival and Shanghai International Arts Festival.

Maestro Tsung was appointed in 2002. Since then the SCO has taken a bold and diverse path to popularity and recognition under the baton of this most visionary of talents.

Music lovers will find an evening with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra uplifting and enjoyable ... as I did.

The music, instruments, sounds and atmosphere make for a different and delightful experience.

Specific concerts and music by the SCO are available via the SCO website ... http://www.sco.com.sg/

Various other interesting information on the SCO can also be found on this site.

So when in Singapore why not let the Singapore Chinese Orchestra woo you with its talent and tones...you won't regret it.

Hint - listen especially for the haunting sounds of the Erhu, a two-string instrument of incredible capabilities that will take the your music appreciation to another level.

Sounds good!
