Spring Breakin' It
For the entire month of January, San Francisco was sunny, warm and the plum trees began to blossom. As lovely as it was, we needed the rain. And, finally, it has arrived. Lots of it. Although that means a wet and difficult city to navigate , just four hours to the east, the rain turns into fluffy white snow.
One of the best things about San Francisco is its proximity to the mountains, desert and the ocean. I am always amazed that one could technically get in the car in the morning, drive for a few hours, ski all day, and come back and head to the symphony. This balance of rural and urban make this city a truly special place.
For spring break, instead of joining the hordes of college kids in the sun, head to the Tahoe area where condos prices are being slashed and ski deals are offered everywhere.
My favorite resorts are as follows:
Northstar-at-Tahoe (A nice place to rent a condo and a good terrain park)
Heavenly (Because it is always fun to ski from California into Nevada)
Sierra-at-Tahoe (It's the biggest!)
Squaw Valley (Because the 1960 Winter Olympics were held here!)
