Springtime in February

Mark Twain was once quoted as saying that "the coldest winter of his life was a summer in San Francisco." He wasn’t kidding. The fog is notorious for rolling in from the Pacific and covering the city in a cold blanket of clouds. In the spring, however, San Francisco is just about as pleasant as can be. Today, for example, all of the cherry trees are exploding with soft pink blossoms and wafting sweet nectar. Spring in San Francisco is the perfect time to visit, especially because it begins in February. A great place to spend a spring day is in Dolores Park. The huge green space is situated between the Castro and the Mission District. With tennis courts on the northern side and rolling grass knolls (perfect for picnics) on the southern side, there is plenty of space for dogs, bikes, kids and sunbathers. If you go on a Saturday and it is a sunny day, it may seem more like an open-air concert. There is bound to be music, dancing, ice cream carts, cotton candy and happy city dwellers. If you walk up the hill towards 20th Street, the park offers wonderful views of downtown. Look for the bench on the corner of 20th and Church Street. Join the happy San Francisco residents and fall in love with their most beloved park!
