If you are one of those travellers who arrives way, way too early to catch your flight, listen up. You may have missed the fluster of trying to make your plane, but you now find yourself sitting and waiting for hours. Hungry? Luckily the San Francisco International Terminal is newly remodeled and offers branches of some of the cities best eats.

If you are looking for a good San Francisco story before you leave town, head to Emporio Rulli. The first Emporio Rulli was opened in Marin County, just north of San Francisco in 1988.  Since this small pastry shop opened, their panettone has become award winning and their traditional Milanese Christmas bread is shipped worldwide.

This delicious Italian cafe attracts visitors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for panini, cakes, cookies, chocolates, coffee and wine. They have locations in the Marina District, right on Union Square and at SFO’s International and Domestic Terminals. Make sure to check them out:

Emporio Rulli Gran Caffè: Domestic Terminal 3 / United Airlines Gate 77
International Terminal: Food Courts A & G, Lower Level Arrivals

If you are looking for something traditionally American and super retro, check out the Burger Joint. Unlike all of the fast food places typically found in most airports, Burger Joint uses ingredients that are free of hormones and locally produced. Their beef comes from Niman Ranch Angus, a farm that has been just north of San Francisco since the 1970s. They also offer Veggie Burgers (it is still California), free-range chicken burgers and Milkshakes made from our very own, double rainbow ice cream. If you are going to get a burger, support the locally owned and operated San Francisco Burger Joint:

Burger Joint: International Terminal, Boarding Area A

Sad to say goodbye to those California burritos? You still have a chance to visit a yummy mexican restaurant. Head to Andalé before you catch your flight. With fresh mexican food made to order, they have great burritos and also offer good breakfast options if Italian pastries just aren't cutting it.

Check them out at one of their many locations:
