Other than prolific drinking sprees on the terrazas of Madrid during summer, the other popular "thing-to-do", is go to the open-air theatres in the city.
There are a number of spots all around Madrid where they have full-theatre-size screens put up, with a wide selection of movies to choose from. The ambiance is great, the movies are cheaper (around €2-5), and so is the beer/popcorn.
Here are the list of centrally located venues screening national and international film in Madrid throughout summer. (NB: Be careful to check what version they are playing before you show up; certain venues show version original, others show dubbed versions).
