Swinging Singapore
The daring visitor to Singapore has a new breath-taking experience to try.
The GX5-Xtreme Swing isn't some fancy swing to be found in a trendy kiddies park. It is, in fact, the latest flying machine located at the southern end of Clarke Quay...or Spaceport Centre as it's sometimes called by 'frequent bungy-swingers'.
Positioned right next to the Reverse Bungy jump GX5-Extreme Swing goes two better than its original cousin next door. As far as seating is concerned, that is, as this is a five-seater offering compared to a three-seater on the Reverse Bungy.
Swingers are taken up to a height of 50 metres before being launched into a 100 metres arc firstly above trees then out across the Singapore River.
The tag-line of GX5 is ‘Why just visit Clarke Quay on the ground - when you can also see it from above?'
Invented in New Zealand in 1995 five other countries have GX5 Experiences available for tourists...with worldwide GX5 ‘swings' numbers totalling over a million to date.
The machine flies at a speed of up to 125 kms per hour - representing a G force of five - so now we know how it got the name.
The cost for a GX5 flight is SIN$40 with a minimum age requirement of 12 years (SIN$30). Youngsters must fly with a parent or guardian. The GX5 swings from 12 noon at the weekend to either one or two in the morning. Weekdays start at 1pm ...closing at one or two the next morning.
Swingernauts can have a DVD recording of their flight for SIN$15...and various GX5 merchandise is available at the launch site.
So why not standby for swing-off when visiting Clarke Quay?
Try it - you'll love it...but best plan dinner after a swing, rather than before.
