Tabaq Bistro
Last Saturday, I had the chance to visit Tabaq Bistro on U Street in DC. This restaurant/lounge has three levels, including a rooftop level as well. I didn't sample the food-- only the libations. We got there around 10pm and that seems to be a good time to get there if you are trying to sit on the rooftop level. The rooftop got very crowded, very quickly.
There main level was almost ghost-like which made us proceed to the top level. I looked at surrounding tables to see what other guests were eating. Tabaq serves mainly tapas. The menu seems to be mainly mediterranean.
Overall, Tabaq was ok. I may go back again. If you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy a cocktail, try Tabaq, but stick with the lower levels. We even happened upon an art show on the second level. The art, which was interesting, mainly focused on women's body parts and was overpriced, but we decided to take a peek anyway. A picture of a women's nipple was a couple thousand dollars, but art is subjective anyway.
The allure of Tabaq Bistro is really the location, U Street. U Street is a hub for trendy boutiques and restaurants. You can hop from place to place on U street and make a night of it. If you are on U street, stop in Tabaq and take a peek.
