Born in the corn fields of a tiny Indiana town, I quickly became fond of the outdoors, and then, when I could walk, of traveling. Studying Russian in college offered me my first real opportunity to travel sans family, and I flew as fast as I could to a little Russian town called Voronezh, where the bilingual dictionary became my best friend and walking by the candy factory and singing Russian karaoke were the local pasttimes. Really it was that first whiff of the candy factory when I told myself, you have to come back here. If not for the educational experiences, then at least for the chocolate. And I kept that promise to myself by landing a spot in Prague (close enough). However, prior to my return to the commie-sphere, I swam over to Mumbai to volunteer with an NGO for street children for one year.
Now camped out in Prague, I wander into arthouse cinemas and experimental theatres, the million and one expat band concerts, the antique book shops, the courtyard cafes, the beer gardens growing cheap beer, the hidden statues, and the endless sea of parks and last but not least, past the city borders into Bohemian village territory. When not wandering or writing or taking pictures of clouds, I try to teach the language that I someday hope to forget.
