Its impressive productions have included 42 world premieres, 7 American premiers and 24 west coast premieres. The La Jolla Playhouse has received hundreds of honors, including the coveted Tony Award for America's Outstanding Regional Theatre.
Early on in their careers, The La Jolla Playhouse has been a place where a long list of well-known movie stars of today, graced the stage before Hollywood placed them in the public eye. Some of these famous actors include: Kim Cattrall, John Goodman, Linda Hunt, Holly Hunter, Jon Lovitz, Campbell Scott, Cynthia Nixon, Vivian Vance, Nancy Travis, Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Gary Sinise.
The productions of this theatre group are excellent. Some productions they have put on have been Big River, The Who's Tommy, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Jane Eyre and Jersey Boys
The La Jolla Playhouse has three venues: The Mandell Weiss Theatre, Mandell Weiss Forum and the Jacobs Center and Potiker Theatre. Each theatre is intimate, seating under 500 people.
The La Jolla Playhouse offers evening shows throughout the week and weekends. On weekends, they also offer matinees. Prices for these live theatre performances typically run between $40 to $60. And as I mentioned, since the venues are small, every seat is a good seat!
