The best of street performances
I don't know about you, but I have come to hate the current street performers that block the best views of tourist attractions. If I'm visiting a place for the first time and trying to get a good shot of that really famous statue or building then I don't want some idiot painted gold getting in the way. I mean come on! You call that performance art? Watching my dog vomit his dinner is more interesting than that.
As you can tell, I have certain issues with those "performers".
Luckily there are still some good street performances around and one you'll find almost daily next to the Gedächtniskirche on Kurfürstendamm. This is the showteam of Berlin Skillz, a group of bmx riders, skateboarders, breakdancers and rappers. On the platz directly in front of the Europa Center these guys put on a show which should make all metallic-coloured indivudals pack up their roses and spears and slink off in shame.
Instead of standing still, these guys are spinning on their heads, riding three skateboards at a time or backflipping across the concrete. These guys are top acrobats and share a few World Champion titles (and an awful lot impressive biceps and ripped abs) amongst them. They have professional shows, run record labels and appear on television, yet still stay true to their street roots.
So if the weather is sunny, these guys can be found there. Hang out and eat ice cream while watching them train, think up new dance routines and try out new skateboard tricks. And when they do a full-on performance, clap, cheer and pull some spare change out of your pocket. Come on, it's waaay more worth it than those idiot statue guys.
