Wolfgang Puck at the La Jolla Playhouse
Just when you thought watching great theatre was enough at the La Jolla Playhouse, Wolfgang Puck has graced his way erecting his new restaurant, Jai. On the playhouse premises, Jai by Wolfgang Puck, has been receiving rave reviews since it opened in June 2008.
The menu is best described as Asian Fusion. And who other than Chef Yoshinori Kojima would be best to work his kitchen magic at Jai? Kojima, known for his contemporary, fusion Asian specialties was sought after when he worked at Red 7 in Los Angeles. Now, people visiting San Diego, are given the opportunity to sample his extraordinary entrees.
The Kurobata Spare Rib, General Tso's Chicken and the popular Miso Sake Broiled Butterfish are definite repeats. And the vegetables that are paired with these entrees have the perfect seasoning to compliment the whole meal. The wine selections at Jai are phenomenal.
The Jai ambience is fine dining, yet modern. The prices at Jai will be higher end, and is definitely not a family dining affair.
The modern textures and lines of Jai were created by highly regarded architect Martin Vahtra. This architect is no stranger to impressive décor, like that found at Red 7, 40/40 Club and the Time Hotel in New York. Diners will not only be impressed with the food, but the Jai environment will add another dimension to the dining experience.
Reservations are highly recommended for dining at Jai, but walk-ins are welcomed, as well. If you decide to be a walk-in, be prepared for a wait. Rather than calling the playhouse, call Jai at 858.638.7778.
In 2009, Wolfgang Puck plans on hosting "cabaret" during various times of the year, so do keep your eye out for that special addition.
