swirl, sniff, sip, spit: award winning wine!
There is good wine in California. Really good wine. And, because San Francisco folk appreciate a good glass, you don't have to venture up to Napa to partake in the swirling, sniffing, gargling and spitting. This Saturday, February 28th, 2009, head to the largest competition of American wines held in SF. The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition will host a public tasting in Fort Mason Center’s Festival Pavilion.
If you like to drink (or swirl, sniff, and spit) wine before the sun goes down, you are in luck! The event is scheduled from 2-5pm and tickets are said to be going fast! Get 'em before it is too late. Advance purchase is $60 but, at the door, they charge $80 if they are still available. This is a wonderful opportunity to talk to some of the best wine makers from California. Don't be shy, ask them what they like, and why. The real fun in this occasion is that it is an event that welcomes the public, wine gurus and competition winners. Everyone gathers together and samples the wine winners of the year. It will be a fun event and a good primer if your trip to SF includes an excursion to the Napa area. Just remeber, balance the spitting with the sipping!
