The Zoom Tours are designed to ensure you get unique animal encounters with the animals of your choice, be it sea lions, tigers, elephants, hippos etc etc. It's like having a backstage pass to some of the world's most endangered and exotic animals.
There are 11 Zoom Tours to choose from with itineraries ranging from feeding hippos to scrubbing down elephants.
There's a good reason to visit the Auckland Zoo this month - actually, there are three good reasons. They are Jalur, Berani, and Cinta, the three Sumatran tiger cubs that were born in the Zoo on June 12th and have only made their public debut on the 17th.
Here's some tips from the Zoo on the best ways to get to see these tiger cubs...
The Zoo can't guarantee or control that you will see the cubs- patience is recommended the cubs are currently given access outside approximately three times a day and this time varies each day, however is more likely between 10am - 3pm a PA announcement will be made when the keepers think the cubs are likely to be outside the cubs have been staying outside for approximately 20 minutes at a time whether the cubs go outside is dependant on fine weather during the September school holidays (27 September - 12 October) keepers have confirmed they will give the cubs access outside at 11.30am each day and there will be a tiger themed holiday programme taking public transport to the Zoo is recommended as parking is at a premium (for public transport options to the Zoo, click here)For those that can't get to the Zoo, there's always the cub cam.
A picture, they say, is worth a thousand words. And that's definitely the case with Auckland Daily Photo, a blog I discovered in my travels around the cyberspace.
Every day a new photo appears on the site that shows what Auckland is really about. From the surrounding rural areas to architecture, people, animals, flowers, streets, the Auckland Daily Photo provides images of an Auckland that most locals don't even get around to seeing.
Bookmark it and spend some time getting a really good look at Auckland the next time it's too wet to go outside...
Art and Environment are the key ingredients to the Auckland Domain's Sculpture Walk. Entering the Domain from Stanley Street, the walk wanders among sculptures created by some of New Zealand's leading artists. Eight large works highlight the diversity of New Zealand art.
A brochure providing directions for a self guided walking tour of the sculpture garden is available from the information desk in the Auckland Museum foyer.
cityhop is New Zealand's very first car share company. It works like a car hire company but with cars parked all over the city, you can hire them by the hour rather than the day.
In order to use cityhop, you have to join up, with an annual cost of $75. This gives you access to any car around the city for $13.50 an hour, which includes the petrol. It's as simple as booking online, using the swipe card to unlock the car and engine, and then drive away.
cityhop is also environmental friendly, using fuel efficient new Daihatsu Sirion cars.
