El Cabildo

El Cabildo

West of the Plaza de Mayo you will find the only remaining colonial structure, El Cabildo. It was a combination of town council and prision, and the site where criollo patriots deposed Spanish videroy Cisneros in the Revolucion de Mayo de 1810 (May Revolution). The present structure preserves part of the original recova (arcade) that once ran the width of the plaza.
