Home to countless lounge bars, sushi bars and tapas bars, Helmholtzplatz is the latest addition to Prenzlauer Berg's booming nightlife scene. Once occupied by drunkards and other down-and-outs, the square has recently been cleaned up and relandscaped, making it a pleasant place to come during the day, and not just at night. The neighbours still dream of the peaceful past, but their protests drown in the laughter of the young people sitting on the terrace, drinking caipirinha and guzzling down olives.
