Paris

Paris is known for its famous buildings and works of art, its chic fashion scene and its modern literary, artistic, and intellectual ideals, and is a must for anyone wishing to experience the best of both contemporary and age old European culture. If you have limited time, make sure to go to the area north of the river, the Rive Droite, to see the tree-lined Avenue des Champs Elysees, running west from the Arc de Triomphe. East of the avenue is the Musee du Louvre, the Centre Georges Pompidou and a lively district of museums, shops, markets and restaurants. Immediately south of the Pompidou Centre on the Ile de la Cite is Notre Dame Cathedral. If you still have time, head west along the river and you will find the city’s trademark, the Eiffel Tower. If you are intrigued by Paris’ famous academic, artistic and intellectual enclave, the Saint Germain de Pres and Montparnasse districts are located just to the east. 

Palais de Tokyo

The Palais de Tokyo, formerly called the Palais d'Art Moderne, was built for the Paris Exhibition of 1937. It now houses the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (east wing) and the Centre National de la Photographie (west wing). Designed by Aubert, Dastugne, Dondel and Biard, it is a functional building in the Bauhaus tradition, like the neighboring Palais de Chaillot. Both buildings show classical influences. The allegorical figures in the peristyle ("Strength" and "Victory") and the figure of "France" (1927) by the pool are by Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929). Htel de Crillon

Commissioned by Louis XV, this 1758 palace on the Place de la Concorde has "an understated, heavenly floral fragrance that permeates the atmosphere." Many rooms have living rooms with fresh roses. L'Obelisque serves traditional plates like foie gras in "a comfortable and not too formal atmosphere." Pets get souvenir collars and walks by the staff.
