Bar Crudo
603 Bush Street, San Francisco, CA 94108
Mermaids gone indie would dine here -- a delicate hipster-chic mural, plenty of good-looking young people slurping up the raw bar, all wrapped in Lower Nob Hill's dusky fog. What may be barely lacking in variety… of oysters is heapingly made up for with the fresh artistry behind their signature crudo dishes. Shore up your tombo tuna and Hawaiian ono with a few hearty Chesapeake Bay oysters, and an unpretentious Chimay or two between that. (photo) [link]

Flora
1900 Telegraph Ave. Oakland Ca
Taking over what was once the Floral Depot, a handsome Deco building in Oakland's Uptown area, Flora has become the symbol of this emerging neighborhood. Owned by Thomas Schnetz and Dona Savitsky from Dona Tomas, the food and the interior have a classic brasserie look. Bartenders in white shirts and wide black suspenders mix a mean cocktail, and chef Jason Moniz does his part with the food, which includes classics with a twist and unusual combinations thrown in for interest.

French Laundry
6640 Washington Ave., Yountville, Yountville, CA
French Laundry chef Thomas Keller may be one of the most sophisticated cooks in America, but Thomas Keller has a very simple passion—eggs. 'They transcend any other food,' he says. Want one of the coveted reservations at this Napa Valley staple? Take the reservationist's advice: "We're open seven days, so call on the weekend, not during the week. Also, try OpenTable.com - we usually release two tables (one seats two, the other four) on a daily basis to the website."

Farmhouse Inn
7871 River Road, Forestville, CA, 95436, USA
The Farmhouse Inn provides accommodation and an excellent restaurant in the heart of the Russian River wine valley. Set back off the busy River Road the main house, circa 1872, resplendent in yellow and cream trim with chocolate shutters, is home to the restaurant, which serves breakfast daily and is open for fine dining Thursday through Monday. A hand-painted frieze of family members around the large dining area attests to the fact that this is a fifth-generation Forestville family. Two deluxe rooms in the main house have fireplaces and magnificent tubs with waterfalls. Eight nicely appointed guestrooms are found in a row of attached cottages across the gravel driveway. Dating back to 1899, these former workers’ cottages have been transformed into havens of sumptuous modernity with feather beds, luxurious European linens, and immaculate white-tiled bathrooms (double jetted tubs), with clever touches such as garden windows that bring the wildflowers outside up close and personal. Most rooms have saunas and fireplaces, and the two suites each have a sizeable sitting area. Relax by the pool and pamper yourself with a relaxing massage in the full service spa. This is a great base for exploring the Russian River vineyards.

Koi Palace

This place is probably the highest rated in terms of atmosphere and food, but like Yank Sing, it falls on the spendier side of dim sum feasts. The decor is awesome, and the service is probably a little more consistent… than some others. The salt and pepper prawns are worth fighting over. [link]

SPQR
1911 Fillmore St., San Francisco, San Francisco, CA
A16’s sister restaurant, SPQR, opened in September 2007 and serves—as you might guess from its name, which refers to the seat of government in ancient Rome—Roman food. The narrow, no-reservations place offers Chef Nate Appleman creations like lemony sweetbreads with celery and garlic as well as outstanding pastas. The list of affordable and hard-to-find Italian wines was assembled by A16's co-owner and sommelier, Shelley Lindgren.
Coco500
500 Brannan St., San Francicso CA
Loretta Keller seamlessly bridges the divide between upscale lounge and sit-down dining with this redo of what used to be Bizou. Most of the offerings are small plates with bold flavors. They might include Tuscan kale and goat cheese ravioli, spaghetti with octopus bolognese or a pear pizza with Gorgonzola, and a few larger main courses thrown in for more traditional diners. The interior, with splashes of blue on the walls, tables of teak and floors of cork, nods to the 1950s. The signature cocktails, like the food, are fabulous.

Jardiniere
300 Grove St, San Francisco, CA 94102
Invisible waitstaff! Luxury of the pleasantly brain-numbing sort, where you're likely to forget what you ordered as you sink into the banquette and dishes appear and disappear without any stray gestures to break… the calm. As such, I can't tell you what oysters were had from the "light" tasting menu, but there was jazz, a stand to hold the bottle of champagne, a cheese room, and enough operagoers to project an aura of rich one could absorb by osmosis. Park Chow
1240 Ninth Avenue, San Francisco, CA, 94122, USA
Since Park Chow is only half a block away from the Lincoln Street entrance to Golden Gate Park, families might consider combining lunch with a visit to Strybing Arboretum.
Acquerello
1722 Sacramento St, San Francisco, CA, 94109-3619, US
Bar Bambino
2931 16th St. San Francisco
You've got to love a restaurant that offers an olive oil tasting on the menu and also makes space for a glassed-in charcuterie and cheese room. It's wedged into a narrow space between the bar and the back dining room, which has a chic urban look. Owner Christopher Losa has created one of the coolest Italian restaurants in one of the most unlikely (read dicey) areas of the Mission District. It feels like New York's East Village, but the nod to organic, sustainable and recycled products is very West Coast. Elizabeth Binder's simple menu is versatile, designed for a quick bite or a full meal to match the unusual wines.

Rosso Pizzeria & Wine Bar
53 Montgomery Drive, Santa Rosa CA 95404
Those determined to track down the best pizza in the Bay Area should put this new Santa Rosa spot on the list. Chef-owner John Franchetti, who earned his stripes at Tra Vigne, offers a spectacular wood-fired pizza in modern surroundings that belie the strip-mall location. With large posters on the wall and nicely spaced tables, it's a cut above the typical pizzeria. The menu isn't limited to pizza, either; there are many other specialties, including one main course special a day, that entice people to wait for an hour or more.
