Barack Obama's Hawaii
The The Wyland Waikiki blog put together an interesting post looking at all the places that Barack Obama and his family visited during a vacation in August 2008. You can read the blog post here: http://tinyurl.com/5gxhc9. As well, the Hawaii Tourism Bureau has created a special Obama page: http://www.gohawaii.com/about_hawaii/explore/obama

Locations:
Kailua Beach Park
Set along Oahu's windward (east) coast, this beautiful beach is ideal for swimming and for windsurfing. It affords amazing views of the area and isn't as crowded as some other island beaches. A stream bisects the park and adds another dimension to aquatic activities. Lifeguards watch over the beach, and you'll also find picnic areas, a volleyball court, restrooms and showers, food services, a bike path, and equipment rentals
Keehi Lagoon Park
465 Lagoon Dr Honolulu, HI
This large urban beach park is close to many city residential areas and downtown Honolulu, and it offers a venue for numerous activities and gatherings. The water is calm and the current is gentle, but it is not a swimming beach nor is it a place to sunbathe, snorkel, surf or dive. This is an area primarily for boating or outrigger canoes.
National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific
2177 Puowaina Drive Honolulu, HI
Few national cemeteries can compete with the dramatic natural setting of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The “Punchbowl” was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs which, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range.
Halona Blow Hole
The Halona Blow Hole is a well known and often visited tourist spot on Oahu's south shore. Many of the circle island tours will make a stop at this site. What is not well know is that the Halona Blow Hole is not at its most majestic water spotting self on most days and the time given by these tours is often not enough to see the true power of the blow hole. This stop is best seen on a windy day at high tide.
Puu Ualakaa State Park
Puu Ualakaa State Wayside Park is a 50 acre forest park on a cinder cone near downtown Honolulu. A lookout point in the park offers views of southern Oahu including Diamond Head, the Manoa Valley, Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, and Pearl Harbor. The one mile Ualaka'a Loop Trail is in in the park and there are also picnic shelters and restrooms.

This beautiful Buddhist temple is a replica of the 900-year-old Byodo-In located in Uji, Japan. It is located in one of the most peaceful locations in O'ahu - the Valley of the Temples. The valley is situated against a back-drop of tall cliffs and is landscaped with traditional lush Japanese gardens and koi ponds. Inside the Byodo-In Temple is a nine-foot Lotus Buddha. Outside is a three-ton, brass Peace Bell.
