Smokehouse Restaurant
4420 Lakeside Drive Burbank, CA 91505
The Smoke House was founded in 1946 at the corner of Pass & Riverside in Burbank. The original restaurant seated 46 people, and was enjoyed by local luminaries Bob Hope and Bing Crosby (among others) on its opening night. With Jim Stockton as the promoter & front man, and Jack Monroe as the cook, the restaurateurs enjoyed much success and were soon looking for a larger building with more seating capacity. The Red Coach Inn at 4420 Lakeside Drive, originally build in 1947 by Danny Kaye, never opened as a restaurant because he couldn't build a big enough dance floor in the 6,000-sq.-ft. building. In 1948, The Smoke House moved into the building. The restaurant's success continued to grow under its slogan "Fine Food at a Fair Price". Hours: Monday - Thursday: 11:30am - 4:00pm (Lunch) & 4:00pm - 10:30pm (Dinner) | Friday: 11:30am - 4:00pm (Lunch) & 4:00pm - 11:00pm (Dinner) | Saturday: 11:30am - 3:00pm (Lunch) & 3:00pm - 11:00pm (Dinner) | Sunday: 10:00am - 2:30pm (Brunch) & 3:00pm - 9:00pm (Dinner)
Village Pizzeria
131 N. Larchmont Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, United States, 90004
When the original owner moved to San Francisco in the early 1970's, the only thing he missed was his favorite Brooklyn pizza. the hearty, zesty meal of his childhood made San Francisco's Pizza seem pale in comparison. In search of the taste of his youth, in 1979 he and his partner opened the first Village Pizzeria. They believed they could combine Brooklyn flavor with California fresh and produce a truly great pizza. California "Fresh" means just that - no additives - fresh. The dough for the pizza crust is prepared daily using fresh yeast and allowed to "proof" (rise). the resulting shell is a true baker's crust. Village Pizzeria uses the best Wisconsin mozzarella available. To insure the quality and freshness of the toppings, we make our own sausage, meatballs, marinara sauce, fresh crushed garlic and clam mixture and pesto according to specific "special" house recipes. We only use fresh cut produce. Hours: Open daily Monday - Thursday 11:30am - 9:30pm | Friday - Saturday 11:30am - 10:00pm

Harold & Belle's
2920 W Jefferson Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90018
In September of 1969 Harold Legaux Sr. along with his wife Belle opened Harold and Belle's. It had been a dream of Harold's to have a place where friends from home (New Orleans) would gather, talk over old times, shoot pool, and socialize. His kitchen was small and the menu was simple. It featured Po-Boy Sandwiches, Red Beans and Rice, and File Gumbo served only on Friday. After the passing of Harold Sr. in 1979, Harold Jr. and his wife Denise took over the full operation of the restaurant. Unlike his father who enjoyed the pool playing, and bar atmosphere, the younger Harold preferred a finer dining environment with linen table cloths and candle light. Having a passion for cooking, Harold Jr. introduced several new items to the menu including Shrimp Scampi, Shrimp Creole, Crawfish Etouffee, and Clam Chowder. He even offered Gumbo every day. In 1984, Harold and Denise brought in partners Al and Sue Honore. Together they expanded the restaurant from 12 dining tables to 35 dining tables, and the kitchen has tripled in size. In 2002 Ryan Legaux, the son of Harold Jr., returned to the restaurant to work full time and is now General Manager. Together they are involved with the daily operations and have taken Harold and Belle's above and beyond Harold Sr.'s original dream. Hours: Monday-Thursday: 11:30am - 10:00pm | Friday - Saturday: 11:30am - 11:00pm | Sunday: 11:30am - 11:00pm

El Carmen
8138 W. 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA, 90048, United States
If "Twin Peaks" director David Lynch designed a south-of-the-border bar, this is what it would be like. Mounted bull heads watch over tequila drinkers, while black velvet paintings of Mexican wrestlers survey the room. The theme carries over to the wrestler masks hanging from the ceiling and the Pulp-style art covering the walls. The surreal mood is locked in when the jukebox jams its fourth Michael Jackson song in the last hour and no one even notices. Hours: Mon-Fri 5pm-2am | Sat-Sun 7pm-2am

The store, designed by Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren, opened in 2004, giving Prada a total of three highly conceptual Epicenter stores worldwide. Downstairs holds the women's accessories, shoes and handbags and the dressing rooms, which frost over from clear to opaque at the touch of your hand. Up the wide staircase, the women's ready-to-wear area stands, and even further up, men pass through what looks like a metal detector to ogle fashion in an environment that looks like an airport. A whopping 24,000 square feet hold a larger Prada collection than was heretofore available in Los Angeles—and more celebs per square foot than any other Rodeo Drive boutique. Hours: Mon-Sat 10am-6pm | Sun 12pm-5pm

Prana Café
620 N. La Cienega Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90069
The less formidable counterpart to heavyweight sister restaurant Republic, this breakfast and lunch café makes for a laidback spot to dine al fresco on healthy comfort food. Providing a pleasant outdoor dining experience, the simple wicker chairs and maple café tables line the sidewalk, some covered by canvas canopy, others shaded by the trees lining this leafy street. Strategically located on the corner of La Cienega and Melrose Place, patrons can hope to catch a glimpse of celebrity shoppers ducking out of neighboring Monique Lluhlier, Marni or Oscar de la Renta. The menu is comprised mainly of contemporary American favorites, with some subtle Asian influences in dishes like the Thai, a breakfast option with scrambled eggs, diced shrimp, Thai chilies and Krapao leaves in lettuce cups. Lunch is traditional, no-fuss food like a dressing-drenched smoked chicken Cobb salad and barbecue braised short ribs. Smoothies made with ingredients like fresh fruit, flax seeds, bee pollen, ginger ice cream and ginseng extract have clever names like "Blues Away" and "Love Jones."

Mondrian Los Angeles
8440 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, California, 90069, United States
With some of the hottest dining and nightlife in Hollywood right there in the hotel, Mondrian oozes chic style and sophisticated urbanity. The design, by Phillipe Starck, grabs your attention the moment you walk off Sunset Boulevard, past the glowing glass walls and dramatic curtains, and into the lobby. Yes, it's normal to feel like you've suddenly walked onto stage. Hopefully you're not here to work. But if so, you'll appreciate the fact your room is equipped with a large desk that comes fully stocked with office supplies. And you might not plan a lot of cooking, but the full kitchen in your room still comes in handy for morning coffee, or after-hours cocktails. Mondrian's Asia de Cuba restaurant is one of the city's most talked-about restaurants, and serves up healthy portions of funky, Latin music, and fusion cuisine. Later on, get ready for some star spotting, at the open-air Skybar, one of Hollywood's hot spots.
Lucques
8474 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood, CA, United States, 90069
Named after a coveted variety of French olive, Lucques offers inspired rustic Mediterranean cuisine with strong California influences. And it's served in an idyllic setting: the former carriage house---transformed by designer Barbara Barry---of silent film star Harold Lloyd. Dine inside in one of the booths near the fireplace, or outside, on a lovely patio where the walls are covered with climbing vines. Chef Suzanne Goin, who clearly picked up some valuable knowledge working at places like Campanile and Chez Panisse, utilizes a wealth of intriguing vegetables from local farmers markets to produce a contemporary Mediterranean cuisine as clean as the stylish setting. Some representative starters from Goin's regularly-changing menu include veal sweetbreads with quince purée, fennel, prosciutto and a hint of vanilla; and a lively salad of apples, Asian pears, radicchio and mint with buttermilk dressing. Among the entrées, you may find pancetta-wrapped trout with sorrel, fennel gratin, verjus and crushed grapes; or a slow-roasted lamb sirloin with chickpea mash, Nyons olives and cherry tomatoes. For dessert, consider a fruit tart or a satisfying French cheese plate. You may also experience Goin's work nearby at sister restaurant A.O.C., where the focus is on small plates. Hours: Lunch Tue-Sat 12pm-2:30pm | Dinner Mon-Tue 6pm-10pm | Wed-Sat 6pm-11pm | Sun 5pm-10pm

Little Next Door
8164 West 3rd Street, CA 90048
This little café on 3rd Street, the companion to popular date spot The Little Door, is part patisserie, part French market, part best brunch in the area (to hell with Toast). The waiters all wear French sailor… outfits, which is a little over the top, admittedly, but one bite of a beignet here has a way of putting ridiculous costumes in perspective. And they have rillette -- pork or goose, depending on your fancy -- for the perfect "winter" lunch. [link]

Shelter Supper Club
8117 West Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90046
Shelter has been reincarnated into a two-level playground for the young and affluent. Just like Madonna, it stays ahead of the curve by constantly reinventing itself, effectively creating a new club in the same space every three months. With a rep for being raw and salacious, the Strip’s latest haunt is a definite must-go for anyone looking to make the scene. In the beginning, it had the feel of a gothic palace with black walls, bondage art, and sexy waitresses in torn, black leather outfits and feathery fauxhawks. But, much like we did in ninth grade, Shelter got over the goth look. It was then transformed into a Nordic lodge with a working fireplaces, fur-covered furniture and waitresses in outfits that show off their bunny slopes. Now, it has the feel of a St. Tropez discotheque with white walls, vinyl furniture, spacious patios and waitresses dressed in tight white outfits perfect for a night out on the Riviera. The getup is so convincing, you almost expect to see Brigitte Bardot (circa 1969) when you turn the corner. While people shake it on the dance floor in the main room, the real action happens in the downstairs lounge, where people aren’t afraid to let loose and indulge in a little debauchery.

8221 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California, 90046, United States
LA is in every way a city where you can be whoever you want as long as you can back it up. And, those who can, will inevitably find themselves staying the night, or partying all night, in the storied hallways and lounges of Hollywood's Chateau Marmont. Modeled after a French palace in Loire Valley, Chateau Marmont is graced with 63 rooms, suites, cottages, bungalows and penthouses. Almost all the accommodations have a kitchen, and all of them have sound proof walls (make what you will of that!) If you arrive at the Chateau with a preconceived notion of what it will be like inside, you'll be delighted to know that you're probably right. The decor is a patchwork blend of gothic, retro-rival and retro-chic working in concert to create a hotel that is both historic and hip. Now, arriving at the Chateau on Sunset strip with a vision of what it will look like is one thing, but anticipating who you'll encounter, or what you might get up to while you're there, is quite another.

Koi
730 North La Cienega Boulevard, West Hollywood, West Hollywood, California
With its sultry, feng shui-conscious design, flickering candlelight, and crowds of A-listers sipping sake martinis, Koi is perhaps better known for its glitzy scene than for its Japanese-inspired food. But even if there are no paparazzi waiting outside for Lindsay or Paris to finish their spicy tuna, the dishes here are reliably yummy. Kobe beef carpaccio with yuzu vinaigrette, spicy seared albacore with crispy onions, and miso-bronzed black cod are all flavorful and satisfying—and great fuel for stargazing.Tip: Kick back on the bamboo-shrouded back patio and sample from the restaurant’s impressive sake collection.
