Tavern on the Green

Tavern on the Green was a restaurant located in Central Park on the Upper West Side of New York City, in the United States.

With 2007 gross revenues of $38 million, from more than 500,000 visitors, it was the second highest-grossing independently-owned restaurant in the United States (behind The Venetian's Tao restaurant in Las Vegas, at $67 million).[1][2] Of the several dining rooms, the most famous was the Crystal Room, which features windows overlooking the restaurant's adjacent garden in Central Park.[3]

Tavern on the Green had its last seating on December 31, 2009. It auctioned off its interior decorations and closed its doors because of bankruptcy.

This cultural phenomenon launched a culinary coup.  Hearty moquecas and colorful seviches found a place at the table along side simple miso soup and tender sashimi.  SUSHISAMBA serves these traditional dishes, plus more inventive fare, including sashimi seviche, tuna tataki, and our south american beef maki roll.  Equal parts imagination and history, the SUSHISAMBA experience is truly unique.

SUSHISAMBA swung open its doors on park avenue south in NYC in 1999. Since, we’ve proudly opened six locations, including a second Manhattan location, as well as SUSHISAMBA Miami, Chicago, Tel Aviv and Las Vegas.  In November, 2009, we celebrated ten years of singular, soulful style and superlative dining and service.

Reading and discovering rare books was one of John and Yoko’s shared passions. Strand Books in Greenwich Village, two blocks from Union Square, is a family-run, independent bookstore. With 55,000 square feet jam-packed with new and old titles, a bookworm can become happily lost in this sprawling store.
