If you hear heavy breathing in this lovely Spring Garden Place music store, don't panic---it's Roxanne, resident bulldog and shop mascot. Specializing in classical, new age, blues, jazz, vintage and traditional music CDs and DVDs, Madrigal's specialized products are all handpicked by music aficionado and owner Tom Plewman.

Bubble's Mansion

A far cry from Sunnyvale, you'll recognize this Trailer Park Boys-inspired bar and popular nightspot, owned by Mike Smith, AKA Bubbles, by the giant shopping cart marquee and signature goggles out front. Inside, Bubbles keeps true with mini-shopping carts filled with many deep-fried wonders, and for the true fans, Pictou Pizza, which comes with mushrooms, pepperoni and green pepper on top of a chicken soup-based sauce.

Hibiscus

Angie DeMont opened the Halifax location of Hibiscus Boutique in 2007, joining her summer-only shop in Chester (which will continue.) The shop tries to incorporate fair trade fashion as much as possible, as well as unique shoes, handbags, jewelery and accessories.

For a true tast of Nova Scotia, take an interactive tour of the Alexander Keith's Nova Scotia Brewery located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Still brewed only in Halifax, Alexander Keith's India Pale ale remains a favourite of beer drinkers across Canada. Actors in period costume will lead you back in time as you learn about the beer, the brewery and life in Halifax in 1863.

Though the brand is out of Canmore, AB, the downtown shop is fully locally owned, an essential stop before you wade into the surf at any time of the year. Halifax Citadel National Historic Site

The Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is one of the most popular attractions in Canada. Some people say it takes a full day just to see everything Citadel Hill has to offer. If you visit the Army Museum, you'll get to see "The Tides of History" as well as experience the day to day life of soldiers and their wives in the mid Victorian era. Of course there is much more to experience here than watch a movie, you can walk through the barracks, sit in an old classroom or take a peak at the communications exhibit. The Dome
