Going all the way back to our travels in the Overberg we found a lovely little farm that granted us the tranquillity and rest we needed. On a dusty road just outside the town of Stanford is the lovely farm called Oak Grove Farm. We overnighted at Oak Grove Farm on one of those cold and wet stormy days in the Overberg that I always seem to attract, but the large farm style cottage with a roaring fire in the fireplace giving a cosy and inviting atmosphere was more than a match for anything the storm threw at us. The farm is situated close to the Klein River and the Akkedisberg Mountain Range. This peaceful farm offers visitors self catering cottages that sleeps from 2 to 8 people in cottages ranging from a studio cottage to the big old farm house. Each cottage has a fully kitted kitchen, bathroom and all the general comforts of home. With a lovely swimming pool for those long hot summer days or warm country evenings. There is also a beautiful view of the Hermanus Lagoon where you can enjoy a variety of activities such as canoeing, swimming & horse riding to name just a few. There is also the Klein River that offers some very relaxing river cruises with a company called The Platanna River Cruises who specialises in bird watching but are just as suited to visitors who would just like a relaxing trip down the river. The region is commonly known for its amazing bird life some of which can be seen on the farm. Some of the birds that can be seen are the Cape Sugar Bird, Blue Cranes, Cape Eagle Owls and so many more. It is the type of place where you forget the hustle and bustle of the city life and where you can find an inner peace as you observe the amazing setting with the all the sights and the sounds of nature.
